For 10 years Das Japanische Haus have graced the Eisenbahnstraße with their untiring, good-hearted hospitality. Much to everyone’s shock, they’ve heard recently they will now have to leave.

In solidarity and cooperation with Das Japanische Haus, therefore, Orinoco Books and AKV have initiated a cinema series of Japanese adaptations – Japanese films, based on Japanese short stories or novels.

The first edition will be an outdoor viewing of Hiroshi Teshigahara’s Woman in the Dunes (1964), based on Kobo Abe’s eponymous 1962 novel.

Hannah Peuker, media anthropologist at the Bauhaus-Universität Weimar, will provide an introduction to the film.

The event starts at 8:00 pm on the 8th of July, at Das Japanische Haus (Eisenbahnstr. 113B) and the entrance, including Japanese snacks, is free!

Yet we do not only encourage the thirsty to bring their wallet, as we hope that everyone – each to their capacity – will donate generously to help our friends at japanisches Haus!

The introduction will be in English and German, the movie will be in Japanese with English subtitles.
